Statement on COVID-19
Out of an abundance of caution Ontario Basketball has elected to, effective immediately, cancel OBA Championships, both Provincials and Ontario Cup, at the U11 and U12 age groups, and suspend all basketball programming for one month – through Easter long weekend, at which time we will reassess health advisories and safety measures as they relate to COVID-19.
Our commitment remains to promoting a healthy, active lifestyle and therein the health of our members comes first.
Following our communication to internal stakeholders yesterday, Ontario Basketball will continue to monitor the latest updates from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Canada’s chief public health officer, and the Government of Canada and if there is a change in status, or new recommendations, we will provide updates on a timely basis.
While there does not appear to be significant risk to Ontario Basketball’s demographic of membership we encourage you to be vigilant and take extra precaution for your own health and safety.
The Public Health Agency of Canada currently assesses the public health risk associated with COVID-19 as low for Canada and for Canadian travellers. The public health risk is continually assessed as new information becomes available. Updates on COVID-19 can be found at:
