The U19 Girls entered the final OBL weekend with trying to get back in the win column after their first loss of the season against Timmins last weekend. They were moved up a division (from F to E) looking to gain momentum in the push for the Ontario Cup in May.
First up was the team from Bramptom. Riley Truax was on fire hitting her first three 3 pointers and finishing the first quarter with 13 points. All 9 players contributed to a solid defensive effort and won the game 43 - 25. Truax (17 points), Lauryn Oliver (12) and Adrienne Moffat (5) led the Hurricanes with 7 of the 9 players scoring in the game.
The East York Eagles were the next opponent. The game was back and forth with the Hurricanes consistently 6 to 12 points ahead for most of the game. Again defense and full court pressure by the Hurricanes was the difference in a 45 - 34 win. Oliver (17), Truax (15) and Moffatt (8) again led the team in scoring. This a true team effort with Truax missing the second half with an ankle injury and Oliver and Grace Mitchell missing most of the second half with 4 fouls.
Sunday saw U19 Girls play the York South Silver Knights. The team came out slow but managed a 49 - 41 win with everyone getting lots of floor time. Truax (17) Moffat (12) and Cadence Dixon (6) led the team in scoring with Moffat gathering a tremendous 12 rebounds in the game.
The final game of the weekend, the fourth in 26 hours, was against the Lakeshore Lynx from Coburg. The team was tired but they continued with their tenacious defense and hung on to win 40 -32. Truax (19), Olver (10), Moffat (7) and Maddie Flaxman (4) led the Hurricanes in scoring with Oliver grabbing a tremondous 13 rebounds.
The Hurricanes now have a record of 13 wins and only 1 loss with their next game Sunday April 17th in Barrie.
